US days of supply crude and gasoline have steadily increased for over a decade
In terms of days of supply (commercial inventory/implied demand), US inventories of both crude oil and gasoline have been steadily increasing for over a decade. Lows were reached near 2005 with <20 days supply of crude and ~22 days supply of gasoline. Supply has now rebounded to approximately 28 days of both crude oil and gasoline. Crude oil levels have been increasing faster overall than gasoline inventory. These levels fluctuate throughout the year, but the long term trend has been higher. The rate of increase has leveled off in the last 4-5 years. 2016 and 2020 were both anomalous years, for different reasons, but the longer term trend still appears to be higher.
